Albany Pro Musica is pleased to welcome four high school students as music interns for the 2026-2027 performance season (October 2026 to July 2027). This opportunity is open to talented and highly motivated students who will be in grades 10, 11, or 12 during the 2026-27 academic year, and who are interested in pursuing a career in music.
Albany Pro Musica interns will receive invaluable experience related to:
Choral performance:
- Rehearse and perform with Albany Pro Musica, a professional-quality choral ensemble, during the 2026-2027 concert season. Music Interns will be paired with APM Chorus singers within their vocal section to serve as “rehearsal buddies” and offer musical guidance as needed.
- Perform alongside professional musicians, including Orchestra Pro Musica, renowned vocal soli, and celebrated guest ensembles.
- Perform at the historic Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and other acclaimed local venues.
College preparation: Receive a recommendation letter from APM’s artistic/executive director for their college applications.
APM will also coordinate, based on the specific music-career interests expressed by the students, one or more experiential learning opportunities for interns.
Expectations:
- Time Commitment: Music Interns are expected to participate in APM’s performance opportunities during the season, including:
- APM subscription-series concerts (music interns may be excused from 1 concert of the season with advance notice and approval)
- Weekly rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at University at Albany from 7-9:30 pm
- Performances on: December 13, March 7, and May 2
- Appearances with Albany Symphony Orchestra and/or the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (as applicable)
- High School Choral Festival (January 27, 2027)

- Pro Musica International Choral Festival (July 19-24, 2027)
- APM subscription-series concerts (music interns may be excused from 1 concert of the season with advance notice and approval)
Musical Preparation:
Music Interns are expected to meet the same musical expectations as APM’s Concert Chorus members, including attendance, etiquette, and score preparation. Please refer to the APM Concert Chorus Handbook for specific requirements and expectations.
Application Process:
Interested students should submit an internship application by September 30, 2026. Music Internship applications must be signed by a parent or guardian. Prospective interns must also complete an audition with APM’s Artistic Director to assess their vocal ability, timbre, and range. Applicants must be prepared to sing measures 7-26 of Morten Lauridsen’s “O Nata Lux.” The audition will include singing in a small group as well as an individual vocal assessment. Auditions are on Tuesday, October 6 from 6-7 pm at SUNY Schenectady School of Music.
Participation Fee:
There is no program participation fee and Music Interns will receive full scholarships to attend the Pro Musica International Choral Festival in summer 2027.
