The sopranos and altos of Albany Pro Musica join The Philadelphia Orchestra, under the baton of celebrated conductor Marin Alsop, for Gustav Holst’s The Planets. This iconic work has inspired generations of sci-fi film composers, featuring the ferocity of “Mars, the Bringer of War”, the high-spirited “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity,” and the ghostly suspense of “Neptune, the Mystic.” Holst’s exciting, cosmic score features a seven-movement orchestral suite, with each movement named after a planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst.
The Philadelphia Orchestra will also perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, featuring American violinist Randall Goosby, heralded by The New York Times for his “sheer virtuosity” and “exquisite tone” and in recent seasons has enjoyed a robust performance schedule with many of the world’s leading ensembles including The Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
