Who is the King of Instruments?

Albany Pro Musica Artistic Director, Jose Daniel on the organ and his brother Marcos Daniel on the piano will amuse the audience with a celebration of the long-standing rivalry between instrument aficionados (and siblings) with an electrifying program filled with exciting repertoire that entertains and delights audiences as it keeps them on the edge of their seats. Proctors CEO Philip Morris will be a mediator in this duel with a humorous narration while the exquisite voices of Albany Pro Musica will add to the challenge accompanied and conducted by the contending brothers.

Our region’s rich history as a mosaic of cultures inspired this unique concert featuring music from many of the cultures which have influenced our region, including Dutch, German, English, Italian, Pole, African-American, Irish and Hispanic.  The concert will include the world premiere of a work by Albany Pro Musica composer-in-residence Steve Murray, commissioned exclusively for this event.  The concert will be preceded by a three week celebration throughout the Capital Region with art exhibitions, lectures and other events.

Don’t miss this unique collaboration as brass and voices unite! The Canadian Brass, the world’s most famous brass group, combines with the voices of APM in a delightful and unique way. Dominick Argento’s work for voices and percussion, “I Hate and I Love,” sets the tone for a program that exalts the ideals of love. The grand finale features the breathtaking “Canite Tuba” by Donald Mccullough.

5.06.2017 | THE ARMED MAN — A MASS FOR PEACE The Orchestra Pro Musica joins APM in a stirring performance of Karl Jenkins’ mass for peace. “The Armed Man” outlines the growing menace of war, interspersed with moments of reflection, and ends with the hope for peace. The concert will be preceded by a capital region-wide series of art exhibitions, lectures and other events as our community joins APM in their cry for peace.

APM will join the Albany Symphony Orchestra for this new American opera based on the acclaimed novel by William Kennedy. Roscoe Conway, after years as the motor of Albany’s political machine, longs to retire. But just when he thought he was out, things pull him back in. Hearts will pound as gifted student musicians join Albany Pro Musica onstage for a transforming experience: the chance to sing and play with the region’s premier chorus at a nationally renowned concert hall. Choirs from local high schools will all perform individually, followed by a grand finale – 260 voices and instrumentalists under the baton of APM Artistic Director José Daniel Flores-Caraballo.
